Sandoway House Nature Center

Where Kids Can Feel and Experience Nature

Sandoway House summer events include Turtle Talk Tuesdays, Garden Walk Wednesdays, Fossil Fridays, Inside and Outside of Shells, Snake and Lizard Talk, Coral Reef Shark Feedings and lots more hands-on learning. Camps include Marine Biology Camp and a Science Camp.

This Nature Center features a number of exhibits, including a microscope lab, activity room for lectures, observation deck, shell gallery, coral reef pool with sharks, butterfly garden, and gift shop.

Summer Events

The Sandoway House Nature Center is celebrating the summer season with interactive, educational and fun summer events for the entire family.

Admission is only $4 per person for everyone age 3 and up; free for members. Admission includes all other marine and fresh water exhibits and entrance to see one of Florida’s largest public shell collections.

Turtle Talk Tuesday’s

Sandoway museum

Every Tuesday at 2 PM join the Sandoway House Nature Center for Turtle Talk Tuesday's.

On Turtle Talk Tuesday's, learn all about the four species of turtles & tortoises that call Sandoway House home.

Learn all about their habitat, what they eat, what entertains them, scares them and when they sleep.

Meet Speedy, a Florida’s endangered Gopher Tortoise. And GiGi, a Florida Box Turtle, and a Red-bellied Pond Turtle and a Razor-backed Musk Turtle.

Butterfly Wednesday’s
Garden Walk

Every Wednesday at 2 PM join Sandoway House Nature Center for a walk through the native butterfly garden.

This leisurely Garden Walk includes identification and information on dozens of native Florida plants. Learn what types of plants butterflies like so you can attract them to your home.

Thursday's
Inside and Outside of Shells

Every Thursday at 2 PM learn the Inside and Outside of Shells.

Learn and investigate the inside and outside of different types of shells from one of the largest shell collections in Florida from a resident conchologist.

Kids can see and touch several living mollusks including the Horse Conch, Florida’s State Shell.

This exciting activity also includes a dissection of a large squid.

Fossil Friday's

Every Friday at 2 PM learn about Florida’s fossil history and see up-close and touch dozens of fossils from around the state.

Each participant can take home their own genuine Florida fossil.

See fossils from sharks, rays, mastodons, mammoths, turtles, tortoises and more.

Saber Toothed Catfossil fridays

Snake and Lizard Talk
on Saturday's

Every Saturday at 2 PM talk, touch and feel reptiles that call Florida home.

Learn the difference between a native and invasive reptiles and see examples of both. Discover what they eat and where they would be found in the wild.

Tuesday through Saturday 10:30 AM
Sunday at 1:30 PM

Join us for a splashing good time and discover what Atlantic Ocean Reef Fish and Nurse Sharks eat for breakfast!

Sandoway House

The Sandoway House Nature Center is located in a historic 1936 beachfront home in Delray Beach, Florida.

The house is on the National Register of Historic Places. You will find it on page 55 in the top-selling Florida history book, Images of America: Delray Beach.

The Sandoway Nature Center offers a glimpse into South Florida's fragile marine and freshwater environments through educational exhibits, programs and activities educating the public on natural and freshwater ecosystems.

It is now home to native plants, live animals, and a world-class shell collection and many diverse educational programs.

Educational programs are offered to the public at Sandoway House including Shark Feedings, Guided Historic Tours, Nature Walks, Astronomy Nights, Summer Camps and special events such as Earth Day.

The Sandoway House is listed on The National Register of Historic Places and is located at 142 South Ocean Boulevard in Delray Beach, FL.

It is open Tuesday - Saturday 10 AM - 4 PM and Sunday 12 PM - 4 PM and closed on Monday and major holidays.
